Soon,
the City of Houston will have the largest fleet of electric cars and the
largest electric fleet charging site in the country. The transition to electric
vehicles requires pioneering communities to embrace new technologies—Houston is
leading the way.

“The City of Houston is proud of its vision and ongoing
leadership in electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid technology,” said Mayor
Annise Parker. “This innovative technology is part of our alternative
transportation future, helping the City save money by reducing gasoline costs
while also reducing in-city tailpipe emissions. Due to the significant support
from the City’s partners, Houstonians can feel confident about charging their
cars anywhere.”

Showcased by the Mayor today, the
Theater District garage is the hub of the City Centralized EV Fleet. The City
is purchasing twenty-five all-electric vehicles to add to their existing Prius
plug-in hybrids and plans to have the full fleet assembled before the end of
the year. GRIDbot ‘s stations provide networked electric vehicle energy
management to the City fleet. http://www.greenhoustontx.gov/ev/

Funded
in part by the State of Texas through a grant from the Texas Commission for
Environmental Quality (TCEQ), twenty-eight GRIDbot charging stations are being
installed in the Tranquility Park Garage to provide charging for this
Centralized Fleet. The grant was won with the help of Good Company Associates,
which is providing strategic and operational support to the new venture, to
demonstrate the technology,
collect data to evaluate the impacts of electric cars on air quality and the
acceptance of this new technology.
The air quality modeling is being conducted by the Houston Advanced Research
Center (HARC).

GRIDbot
spokesperson, Richard Donnelly says, “Our networked charging solution is now
ready for prime-time. Our products are the only stations designed to offer EV
drivers access to charging stations at their workplace, apartment, or favorite
retail store, with simple access from a cell phone.”

GRIDbot charging
stations were also recently installed at Cypresswood Estates, Houston's premier affordable Active Adult green community. This new
complex was the vision of the Harris County Housing Authority. GRIDbot helped them to
achieve
the highest possible LEED green building standard. http://cypresswoodestates.com

GRIDbot
is now ramping up production and distribution of its line of user-friendly
charging stations. A secure network communication between the stations, the
vehicles, and the driver sets the stage to maximize the use of off-peak
(nighttime) power.

Based
in Austin, TX, GRIDbot is raising the bar in the public charging, multi-family
and fleet access electric charging equipment
market. www.GRIDbot.net

development consulting practice, also based in Austin. www.GoodCompanyAssociates.com

It's encouraging to see BMW showcasing its test vehicles but it's got a way to go to catch up with some of the other manufacturers. I hope they have a serious wish to be contenders in the EV technology race as opposed to be seen to be doing something for the publicity sake of it!
